Growth involves much more than the development of children’s bodies. While growth in childhood is slower than infancy or adolescence, energy outputs are high, with hard play periods that include running, jumping and testing of new physical skills. Besides building up reserves for these activities, the child must build up reserves for the sudden growth spurts in teen years ahead.

Unfortaunately children do not get adequate nutrition in their diet with the fast foods they eat these days.

A balanced blend of nutrients is a must.

Quality Check List
According to Dr Robert Fletcher and Dr Kathern Fairfield, Harvard researchers.. “Insufficient vitamin intakes is apparently a cause of chronic diseases.

Recent evidence has shown that suboptimal levels of vitamins (below standard), even well above those causing deficiency syndromes, are a risk factor for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis.

A large portion of the general population is apparently at risk for this reason “.
It was seen that when these two well known researchers analysed several nutrients such as A, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, Folic acid, and several of the carotenoids, lycopene, and lutein and concluded that:

•Low levels of folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 increased the risk of some cancers in men and women. These nutrients were essential for proper metabolism of homocysteine.

•Low levels or inadequate amounts of folic acid causes the the risk of neural tube defects and some cancers.

•The lack or inadequate amounts of vitamin D when taken with calcium is associated with osteoporosis and the fracturing of bones as seen in many women.

•Anaemia and neurological disorders are seen when inadequate amounts of B12 are present in the diet

•Breast and lung cancers are seen to increase in females when low dietary intakes of carotenoids such as seen in brightly coloured vegetables, fruits are not present.

•The risk of cancer is more prominent when vitamin C levels are not adequate

•Women may experience poor vision disorders and impaired immune function when levels of vitamin A are low.
Today JAMA strongly declares that scientific evidence shows that supplementation is prudent for optimum health.

Here is a quick do-it-yourself ten point test to help you evaluate whether a particular product is worthy of your consideration. Ask yourself these questions:

Is the product delivered in a single dosage? (a once a day product cannot simply provide the potency needed for optimal nutrition without being too large to swallow.)

Are the potency levels of the ingredients high enough to provide optimal daily nutritional intake without compromising safety?

Are the ingredients provided in their most bioavailable form?

Is the safety profile of each ingredient thoroughly researched and evaluated?

Does the company meet pharmacuetical guidles- not food GMPs?

Is the products formulated to meet pharmacuetical standards for full disintegration and dissolution?

Is the product potency guaranteed for a specified shelf life?

Is the product independently tested and guaranteed for potency?

Is the product manufactured in-house?

Is the product free of ingredients that may have cumulative toxicities ( pre-formed Vit A and iron)?

Over the last decade the importance of vitamin D has become more significant and in the forefront of research. It has been common knowledge that vitamin D plays an important role in helping the body to absorb calcium and bone mineralisation. Limited dietary sources of vitamin D and insufficient sun exposure can contribute to vitamin D deficiencies.

>>>> Want more information on vitamin D3 get our newsletter

Knowing the importance of vitamin D and the fact that so many Australians and New Zealanders have a vitamin D deficiency means that it is essential that we are getting enough vitamin D at all times.

Vitamins women need daily have not been changed since 1968 by the FDA in its daily intake recommendations called the RDI. According to the Women’s Health, nurition requirements have changed since the last 40 years and as recent has 2002 the Journal of the American Medicine Association, JAMA, changed it hardline standing and said that its prudent that men, women and children take supplements these days as they are not taking the required amounts of fruits and vegetables daily.

The daily intake of vitamins for women must have all 47 minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that we need for our daily needs. Of these calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and potassium play a major role and impact significiantly on the skeletal system of females. Calcium is sold in many forms in the health foods stores. Some of the calcium is just crushed bone or oyster shells said to provide you with your daily calcium intake. Unfortunately this source of calcium may have higher than normal lead presence that could be toxic to your system. Look for a supplement that is capable of building or bridging the differences between what your daily intake of food is and what the best experts in the field of nutrition say you must have for optimum health daily.

Women’s vitamins for low energy is made up of a high quality multivitamin, antioxidant along with enough of CoQ10 and vitamin E. When your tissues have low levels of CoQ10 it may lead to severe cardiovascular complications.

Coenzyme Q10 plays a major role in helping maintain good cario health. Vitamin E is important as it binds with LDL chlorestrol and protects it from oxidisation. When levels of vitamin E are low heart attacks are 70% more frequent in patients.

If women in their 40′s have health concerns they should take special precautions to make sure their supplements have adequate amounts of vitamin E, beta-carotene, CoQ10, calcium, magnesium, lycopene, l-carnitine or acetyle-l-carnitine, PCOs, phenolic compounds as seen in the blended standard in the Comparative Guide of Nutritional Supplements.

Nutritional differences between men and women are slight and are hormornal. As humans we need the basic supplements to help body functions. The only difference is that women need certain vitamins to help their specific body functions as females. Women are victims of breast cancers and osteoporosis. By taking adequate amounts of high quality calcium-magnesium supplements women can protect themselves against osteoporosis. They need to supplement with calcium starting from a young age to build up their bank of calcium in their bones. By supplementing with high levels of carotenoids women can lower the risk of breast cancers.

Taking adequate amounts of vitamin C can help prevent the risk of cancers. Vitamin B12 heps to lower the risk of anemia and neurological disorders. For pregnant women taking adequate levels of folic acid will reduce the risk of neural tube defects. Folic acid is seen to lower the risk of certain cancers. A high grade fish oil free from heavy metals help with the unborn baby’s brain development.

What is the best brand of women’s vitamins? The best multivitamins for women are those that abide by the following:

Pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing

Vitamins women need daily normally will be purchased on price. The two most important issues that most vitamin buyers don’t take into consideration are potency and safety. A female’s body needs a varirty of minerals, anitioxidants and vitamins that normally should come from her food.

>

Unfortunately in today’s fast world of modernisation women cannot get the right ingredients fresh enough to give themselves all they need.

Fifty years ago woman’s health was so different. Women had the company of other family members to share the work load of the home as they lived mostly in joint families. There was time to shop at the local market daily each morning and the produce was always fresh. Women were able to cook a lot of variety as families were large and the dishes were always fresh.

Woman health issues have become severe as today life has changed as women have been dragged into the work force to help supplement the family income, families are usually only 2 children strong and the working day spans 10 to 14 hours as a lot of the time goes into commuting.

We do not get enough time to shop as we live too far away from supermarkets and shopping is always in a hurry and done once a week. Gone are the days of the fresh open air markets in big cities.

We are certainly not getting freshness or variety these days.

The lack of freshness is certainly impacting on our nutrient levels these days. Variety is another issue inspite of the fact we may take carbohydrates, proteins and fats in each meal. Unfortanately it’s not the macro nutrients but rather the micronurients that are lacking in our meals. Some of these are calcium, magnesium, copper, etc. This is one of the reason why we need to supplement vitamins into our daily diet each day.

In 1980 the American Journal of Medicine JAMA mentioned strongly that men and women need not take vitamins as their diet was sufficient to give them all they needed. Yet just 20 years later in early 2002, Jama turned its findings around saying it is prudent that we supplement our diet with vitamins as we do not take the basic 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables needed for a healthy diet each day.

Women health issues can be prevented if adequate amounts of essential nutrients are present in her diet daily. She needs to be able to take antioxidants, minerals, alpha lipoic acid, folic acid and vitamins to help with the onset of cancers and osteoporosis. Heart disease is seen to be less when women supplement with a high quality essential fatty acid found in salt water fish. The ratios of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids have to be in the right ratios to help with this condition. Too much of omega 6 is harmful. Omega 6 normally comes from red meats commonly seen in western diets. Another issue is to see if the fish oil in the omega capsules have been distilled twice to remove any heavy metals such as mercury.

Vitamins for women also include calcium and mangesium. Both must be present to help with the absorbtion of calcium into the bones. This is best absorbed when Vit D3 is present. Most of the body’s calcium is in the bones with only 1% in the blood. The blood calcium comes from the bones and this is the reason we need to take high calcium rich foods such as green leafy vegetables to help restore the calcium taken from the bones.

Today osteoporosis is a major problem amoung women as calcium supplementation is so low that women as young as in their 30′s are falling victim to this disease. Once the calcium has been leached from the bones the disease cannot be revoked.

Women need to supplement life long to prevent osteo-arthritis. Taking a calcium supplement is the answer but be careful on the type of supplement you do choose for your body. Calcium formulated with the wrong combinations will calcify in your body leading to complications such as seen in kidney stones. It is important to supplement with a vitamin that you can trust.

As quoted by Dietary Guidelines for Americans, from the Departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture “

eat a variety of foods

maintain healthy weight

choose a diet low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol

choose a diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products

use sugar and salt/sodium only in moderation

if you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. “
